Cựu Tổng thống Donald Trump hôm 19/9 đã phát đi tuyên bố chỉ trích gay gắt cách Chính quyền Biden xử lý cuộc khủng hoảng biên giới phía Nam. Phát biểu của ông Trump đến vào thời điểm có tới hơn 14.000 người di cư Haiti đang sống trong các trại dựng tạm dưới một gầm cầu ở Del Rio, tiểu bang Texas.
“Số lượng người di cư bất hợp pháp đang đổ vào Đất nước ta là đông nhất trong lịch sử, hàng triệu người. Tất cả bọn họ điều không bị kiểm tra, có thể làm bất cứ điều gì và đi bất cứ đâu họ muốn”, ông Trump nói trong tuyên bố phát đi hôm 19/9.
“Đất nước ta đang nhanh chóng trở thành hố thải của nhân loại. Những kẻ sát nhân, đầu lậu ma túy và tội phạm thuộc tất cả loại hình và quy mô chiếm đa số trong số những người di cư này”, cựu tổng thống viết tiếp.
Theo truyền thông Mỹ, có hơn 14.000 người Haiti đã đang cắm trại tạm trong điều kiện dơ bẩn dưới gầm cầu ở Del Rio, Texas từ cuối tuần trước để đợi được giới chức bắt đi, từ đó có cơ hội được vào Mỹ. Tình hình này đã khiến chính quyền Biden phải ra lệnh đóng cửa một cửa khẩu, định tuyến lại lưu lượng giao thông, triển khai thêm các sĩ quan lực lượng Tuần tra Biên giới và sắp xếp các chuyến bay để đưa người di cư trở lại quê hương của họ.
“Hàng chục nghìn người đang đến từ Haiti, và bây giờ cũng có nhiều người đến từ châu Phi, thậm chí nhiều hơn người đến từ Nam Mỹ. Không biện pháp nào được thực thi và Truyền thông Dòng chính hủ bại gần như không chú ý đến những thứ mà có lẽ sẽ là cuộc Khủng hoảng lớn nhất trong lịch sử Đất nước ta”, ông Trump cho biết thêm và lưu ý rằng đây không chỉ là một cuộc khủng hoảng biên giới, mà đó là một “cuộc khủng hoảng của khủng hoảng”.
Một quan chức Mỹ hôm 19/9 đã nói với hãng tin AP rằng chính quyền liên bang đã điều động các chuyến bay và có thể làm nhiệm vụ chở người di cư về lại Haiti từ 19/9. Vị quan chức này nói thêm rằng mỗi ngày có thể có tới 8 chuyến bay như vậy và đây là một trong những nỗ lực để ngăn chặn những người khác tìm cách xin tị nạn tại Mỹ.
Thủ tướng Haiti Ariel Henry đã viết trên Twitter nói rằng ông rất lo lắng về những điều kiện “cực kỳ khó khăn” tại trại biên giới ở Mỹ và khẳng định người dân Haiti sẽ được hoan nghênh trở về nhà.
“Chúng tôi muốn khẳng định rằng chúng tôi đã thực hiện các biện pháp để chào đón họ nồng nhiệt hơn khi họ trở về quê nhà và rằng họ sẽ không bị bỏ lại phía sau”, ông Henry bày tỏ.
Haiti hiện đang nỗ lực phục hồi sau một trận động đất có tính tàn phá mạnh vào tháng trước và chính phủ nước này cũng đang gặp khó khăn sau khi Tổng thống Jovenel Moisen bị ám sát tại nhà riêng một tháng trước nữa.
