Vệ binh Quốc gia Mỹ bảo vệ Điện Capitol trước khả năng có biểu tình

Lầu Năm Góc ngày 17/9 thông báo Bộ trưởng Quốc phòng Mỹ Lloyd Austin đã điều 100 binh sỹ Vệ binh Quốc gia tới thủ đô Washington DC nhằm hỗ trợ cho lực lượng cảnh sát bảo vệ Điện Capitol trong trường hợp cần thiết.
Phát ngôn viên Lầu Năm góc cho biết quyết định trên được đưa ra theo yêu cầu của cảnh sát Điện Capitol để đối phó với một cuộc biểu tình sẽ diễn ra vào ngày 18/9 nhằm ủng hộ những người đang đối mặt với truy tố hình sự do liên quan đến vụ bạo động diễn ra ngày 6/1/2021.
Các binh sỹ Vệ binh Quốc gia sẽ đóng ở bên ngoài khu luyện tập quân sự ở thủ đô Washington DC và sẽ được triển khai sau khi các lực lượng thực thi pháp luật địa phương, bang và liên bang được sử dụng.
Theo phát ngôn viên, lực lượng đặc nhiệm sẽ chỉ được triển khai khi có yêu cầu của Cảnh sát Điện Capitol để giúp bảo vệ Tòa nhà Quốc hội Mỹ và các tòa nhà Văn phòng Quốc hội bằng cách quản lý các điểm ra vào của tòa nhà và xác minh thông tin đăng nhập của những cá nhân tìm cách tiếp cận tòa nhà.
Trước thông tin diễn ra cuộc biểu tình vào ngày 18/9, nhiều biện pháp an ninh đã được thắt chặt.
Một hàng rào đã được dựng lên, ngăn cách các bãi cỏ của khuôn viên Điện Capitol với các địa điểm khác của chính phủ bao gồm Tòa án Tối cao, Thư viện Quốc hội, các tòa nhà văn phòng quốc hội và Hồ bơi phản chiếu Điện Capitol ngay phía Tây của Đồi Capitol, nơi những người biểu tình dự kiến tập trung để biểu tình.
Du khách đến sân bay gần Washington DC cũng sẽ phải đối mặt với tình trạng an ninh được tăng cường trong thời gian diễn ra cuộc biểu tình.
Cảnh sát trưởng Điện Capitol Thomas Manger cho biết đã có nhiều lời đe dọa liên quan tới cuộc biểu tình, tuy nhiên không nêu cụ thể.
Theo ông Manger, các quan chức Mỹ hy vọng cuộc biểu tình sẽ diễn ra hòa bình, tuy nhiên lực lượng cảnh sát cũng đã chuẩn bị sẵn sàng trong trường hợp bạo lực nổ ra và hầu hết các thành viên Quốc hội cũng sẽ không có mặt tại khu vực này./.
